Nas made his solo debut on the tune “Halftime” from MC Serch’s soundtrack for the film Zebrahead. Nas’s rhyming abilities drew a lot of attention from the hip-hop scene.
Illmatic, Nas’s debut album, was released in 1994. Illmatic recorded a number of songs, including “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,” “One Love,” and “The World Is Yours.” The Source named Illmatic the greatest album of 1994. The Firm, a supergroup consisting of Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, and Cormega, made their debut on It Was Written.
Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment label signed The Firm, and they started working on their debut album. Halfway through the album’s recording, Cormega was sacked from the band. Nature has joined the Firm as the Firm’s fourth member. The Firm features Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature. The album received mixed reviews when it was released in 1997. Despite its platinum certification, the album failed to chart, and The Firm split.
Nas went on to release nine additional albums: I Am…, Nastradamus, Stillmatic, God’s Son, Street’s Disciple, Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled, 2012’s Life is Good, and Nasir in 2018. Nas was accused of being physically and mentally abusive during their marriage by Kelis in 2018. Nas has accused Kelis of engaging in “extremely aggressive behavior and verbal abuse” as well as “physical violent attacks” against him. The ex-relationship couples are still tumultuous. Kelis, who has now remarried and given birth to a second son, refuted Nas’ claims that she is keeping Knight from him.
