The latest round of streaming battles has begun, with a bevy of networks and studios launching their own streaming services to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. One of these new streaming providers is Paramount+. CBSViacom, the streaming service’s parent company, relaunched it on March 4 and has already invested millions of dollars in original TV episodes and movies. Some of these games are currently available, but the vast majority will be launched in the next years.
Mayor of Kingstown, a crime drama about America’s prison system, is one of Paramount+’s most anticipated TV series. It has also assembled a stellar group of actors, both in front of and behind the camera, which includes Oscar-winners and nominations. When will the Mayor of Kingstown be made public?
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Paramount + has yet to establish a release date. The cast is still being finalized, and the start of production has yet to be confirmed. Jeremy Renner, who played Mayor of Kingstown, is currently filming a mini-series based on the Avengers’ Hawkeye for Disney+. According to ComingSoon.net, filming on the Hawkeye series began in early December 2020 and is still ongoing. Taylor Sheridan, the show’s co-creator, is also very busy these days, with Paramount+ announcing two distinct Yellowstone spin-offs, Yellowstone: 1883 and Yellowstone: 6666.
The Mayor of Kingstown will join a crowded field of Netflix original shows when its premiere date is disclosed. According to Business Insider, Paramount+ has debuted 60 new original television series. The only one with a confirmed release date is the Halo TV series, which will air in early 2022.
What is the plan of the Mayor of Kingstown?
The show is set in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan, where “the business of incarceration is the only flourishing industry.” The plot revolves around the McLuskys, a famous local family that runs the town. According to the Paramount Network, the McLuskys are “power brokers between cops, crooks, convicts, prison guards, and politicians.” The American prison system will be one of the series’ major themes, which will notably address issues of institutionalized racism and injustice. The Hollywood Reporter quoted Antoine Fuqua, one of the show’s producers, as saying regarding the Mayor of Kingstown: “The series delves into the horrible jail system, which is plagued by geopolitical difficulties. Prisons are a forgotten realm for the most part, yet they are a microcosm of society at large.”
Corruption is a major theme in the show. The “mayor” in the show’s title is also the eldest son of the McLusky family.

Who is in the cast of Mayor of Kingstown?
As previously noted, Jeremy Renner stars in the series. Mike McLusky, the family’s heir, will play him. In recent years, Renner has starred in numerous prominent film franchises, including The Avengers, Mission: Impossible, and the Jason Bourne trilogy. Mayor of Kingstown will be his first television appearance since 2009 when he starred in ABC’s crime drama The Unusuals.
